With its warm voice that brings out the goodness in each one of us signaling the rebirth of yet another step towards the beauty of the Earth washing away the cold part in our hearts, that reminds of new beginnings - entering the stage, the robin.
Native Americans has their own definition for the robin - it depends on which tribe you belong. For the Native Americans of the Plains, with its red rosy chest signified the dawn to which the sun is about to shine to its full glory and it yellow beak attributes to the hope that the sun has brought to the Earth - as light has always meant hope for most people, and thus this is what they saw the dawning of another day, that in each and every day new hope can be born. In addition, the yellow beak has also be accustomed to being mindful of what we say - think before you say a word and if you do not have anything nice to say, then you should just keep silent about it; never be too tactful because you might just hurt somebody.
For the Shoshone and Iroquois, both are still tribes of the Native Americans, the robin came to symbolize as a bird full of wisdom and someone who sees the future clearly, even when almost anyone is getting confused. Its decision they respect and when everything seems to be cloudy and unclear, they turn to the robin, invite it in their meeting to shine over its wisdom to its people so they too can see through the crisis that is looming above their tribes.
Moreover, as it came to symbolize new life it is also a sign that tells us that we must be able to enjoy where and what we are now, let it loose. Spring is the time for new beginning and no matter how gloomy your life has been it hopes that your smile and fortunes came with it; be hopeful to the future that might be brighter than what you might be expecting.
Lastly, it has come to know and continue the jovial and cheerfulness that Christmas and the New Year has brought us over the course of the winter seasons because not matter how cold, it was just a prelude to the joy and hope that is about to come into us and just how the robin sings its song of hope, warming our hearts may we too come to see the promising future that lies ahead in our wake.
