Hawk Medicine

The Power Of Perspective

Hawks have the power to soar high above the earth, giving them a perspective previously only available to the inhabitants of the heavens above. Because of this, people from various cultures throughout history have seen them as messengers of spirit, bringing wisdom from the heavens and the value of their higher vision down to earth. From their vantage point, riding on the wind and sunlight, they remind us today that there is a bigger picture to be seen. When we get bogged down with the details of what is right in front of us, hawks help us remember that we are part of a larger plan and that everything fits together beautifully and perfectly. Once in this expanded frame of mind, we can harness their reputation as visionaries, using their keen eyesight to focus on the exact spot that truly needs our attention. With inspiration and focus on our goal, hawks teach us how to interpret and then follow our personal vision.

Hawks were thought to be able to look directly into the sun and see what is not visible to the rest of us. Using our spiritual vision, we too can look deeply into the inner light that guides us, seeing clearly what is not visible unless sought: our personal truth glowing within us. With that knowledge, we, like the hawk, can confidently ride the winds of chance, moving as one with the flow of whirling energy. This ability is what inspired the Egyptians to make hawks the hieroglyphic symbol for the wind.

The hawk's ability to live on land but visit the sky is a good reminder for us all. They remind us that their strength and survival comes from communing regularly with the spirit and bringing the guidance received into earthly affairs. Soaring in the province of the heavenly bodies of the sun, the stars, and the wind that moves the clouds reminds us to consider a larger perspective, one that inspires us to move through the world we inhabit with strength, certainty, and grace.

The Lower, Middle + Upper Worlds

Posted on June 5, 2018 at 9:55 AM

The Lower World is reached by journeying through a tunnel that leads into the earth. It is important this is not blocked.

This world seems very earthy and tangible to the shaman and is characterized by caves, seas, jungles, forests, and deserts. The beings inhabiting the Lower World are the spirits of animals, trees, plants, and rocks as well as human spirits that are connected with the mysteries of the earth.

The Upper World is experienced as more ethereal than the Lower World. The lighting is often bright In the Upper World I might know I am standing on something but what is holding me might seem vague. The landscape here is also very varied. There are crystal cities and cities of clouds. This level also inhabits a variety of spirits. I often see Tibetan helpers here

The Middle World is the hidden reality of the world we live in. In the Middle World the shaman can travel back and forth in time. It is also a place where the shaman can journey in looking for lost and stolen objects.

Soul Retrieval - what's it about?

Posted on March 4, 2018 at 4:30 AM

“It is believed that whenever we suffer an emotional or physical trauma a part of our soul flees the body in order to survive the experience.

The definition of soul that I am using is soul is our essence, life force, the part of our vitality that keeps us alive and thriving.” –

(Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Retrieval )

Most shamanic cultures around the world believe that illness is due to the loss of the soul. Soul loss is an adaptive mechanism that allows us to cope, and in some situations survive a terrible experience, in which the dissociated soul parts depart, carrying the pain or an extreme emotion which may be unbearable to the sufferer at the time it occurs.

This survival area cannot be tapped ordinarily and only under the intervention of a Shaman, who can tap this non-ordinary reality, the soul can be facilitated back into the body.

Traditionally, a shaman would conduct a soul retrieval within three days of someone experiencing soul loss. According to Ingerman, “It is important to understand that soul loss is a good thing that happens to us. It is how we survive pain.”

Many of us feel like we are missing an important part of ourselves or feel like we are not quite whole. Sometimes we also experience soul loss as a chronic illness or face debilitating emotions such as sadness, anger, depression etc.

According to Jung, the only way to address the deep loss of connection to soul that we are experiencing as a species is to re-establish our connection to the sacred.

The soul is what connects you not only to your own value and essence, but to the value and essence of every other living being.

The inevitability of soul loss in modern times cannot be overruled. Most of us do not know that we have disconnected from our soul and have come to accept as normal a numbness and lack of meaning in our lives.

What are the causes of Soul Loss?

Apart some of the obvious causes of Soul loss like serious surgery, accident, shock etc. here is a short list of causes for soul loss:

Any form of abuse from sexual to emotional to mental

An event of prolonged grief, pain and fear that made you feel trapped without any possibility of escape

When you feel shameful enough that you would like to shut out from the world for quite some time.

Giving a part of your soul unconsciously in a dependent relationship to another just like giving away your power to the other person.

A sudden, shocking incident traps a part of our soul in that time or situation like a ghost.

An event where we are rejected, bullied, insulted or are unsupported

Under the spell of addiction we sign a part of our soul to that thing

Constantly suppressing the intuition until the part of intuition leaves the body

Self-inflicted soul loss is another vital reason.

By blocking the part of our personality that is socially unacceptable, we shun that part of our soul. Gradually the shunned part splits and goes into hiding where it is revered.

For instance, as a child, we are constantly reminded of the do’s and dont’s. So if a child is noisy or naughty, he is constantly reprimanded & asked to suppress this emotion.

A constant suppression blocks a vital part of his personality, thereby facilitating fragmentation of that part

Are you suffering from Soul Loss?

Modern wo/ man, lost in the circle of creation and victimization of the dog-eat-dog ideology, has lost an integral part of their soul.

Here are symptoms that indicate soul loss:

A sensation of fragmentation and feeling incomplete like a part is missing

The flat, indifferent attitude towards development in life.

The feeling of low self esteem and considering oneself as unimportant or not worthy.

Depression or panic attacks

Inability to decide and a feeling of being aimless & lost.

Fearful attitude before doing anything.

Lost in the loop of a bad relationship, situations or places.

A sense of non-recovery from a past traumatic event.

Anger management issues and the helpless feeling on the inability to shake off anger, stress, fear or grief.

A constant desire to go back in the past and make things good.

Most importantly, if you feel soul retrieval is the answer to your worries.

The last one is significant to our understanding because generations ago, each & every person practiced Shamanism.

To be more precise, they breathed and lived Shamanism.

This central way of living required them to perform soul retrieval each time a trauma occurred.

This vital knowledge of our ancestors still remains in some part of our unconscious mind still.

And if an ardent need is experienced to get a soul retrieval performed on oneself, it is highly likely that your ancestral wisdom is guiding you.

What happens in Soul Retrieval?

The first obstacle in soul retrieval is to actually find the lost soul piece/s.

Since, we’ve drifted away from the connections we once had with our soul, the shamanic healer has to drift into the past.

“Today, as we have not been practicing soul retrieval, modern day practitioners are going back ten, twenty, thirty, or forty years or even more looking for lost soul parts.”, says Ingerman.

Earlier individuals knew the real reason for illness and recovered by spiritually practicing soul retrieval on their own.

With the help of drumming, rattling, crystals, the shamanic practitioner connects herself with the patient.

The shaman relies on the assistance of her spirit guides and power animal allies to aid her in this process.

Journeying into inner and outer realms, the healer persuades the missing pieces of the soul to return back and removes the obstacles as well.

Upon completion of the journey, the healer returns the missing soul parts by blowing them into the heart chakra, and into the the crown of the head.

The reaction to the process can be felt immediately or after some time when analysed in retrospect. The ability to receive and store on the part of the patient, is a great factor that determines the impact of the process.

Sometimes more than one session can be necessary, if the lost piece requires more attention, persuasion or more than one piece is lost.

Some related therapies of shamanism like power retrieval, shamanic extraction or body re-patterning might be performed simultaneously to achieve enhanced results. Mother Earth demands her children to return back to their natural state of happiness, wholeness and harmony within themselves and externally too. Imagine a world where all souls are whole and complete; each day would be a celebration.

Robin as your Power animal

Posted on August 31, 2017 at 2:45 AM

With its warm voice that brings out the goodness in each one of us signaling the rebirth of yet another step towards the beauty of the Earth washing away the cold part in our hearts, that reminds of new beginnings - entering the stage, the robin.

Native Americans has their own definition for the robin - it depends on which tribe you belong. For the Native Americans of the Plains, with its red rosy chest signified the dawn to which the sun is about to shine to its full glory and it yellow beak attributes to the hope that the sun has brought to the Earth - as light has always meant hope for most people, and thus this is what they saw the dawning of another day, that in each and every day new hope can be born. In addition, the yellow beak has also be accustomed to being mindful of what we say - think before you say a word and if you do not have anything nice to say, then you should just keep silent about it; never be too tactful because you might just hurt somebody.

For the Shoshone and Iroquois, both are still tribes of the Native Americans, the robin came to symbolize as a bird full of wisdom and someone who sees the future clearly, even when almost anyone is getting confused. Its decision they respect and when everything seems to be cloudy and unclear, they turn to the robin, invite it in their meeting to shine over its wisdom to its people so they too can see through the crisis that is looming above their tribes.

Moreover, as it came to symbolize new life it is also a sign that tells us that we must be able to enjoy where and what we are now, let it loose. Spring is the time for new beginning and no matter how gloomy your life has been it hopes that your smile and fortunes came with it; be hopeful to the future that might be brighter than what you might be expecting.

Lastly, it has come to know and continue the jovial and cheerfulness that Christmas and the New Year has brought us over the course of the winter seasons because not matter how cold, it was just a prelude to the joy and hope that is about to come into us and just how the robin sings its song of hope, warming our hearts may we too come to see the promising future that lies ahead in our wake.

Robin Visits

Posted on August 31, 2017 at 2:45 AM

the other morning a robin sat on my balcony briefly, then hopped onto a plant pot, then the railings, sat for a moment then flew away. I wondered what would it take  for the robin to come into my home.

This morning s/he flew into my home through the front door and into my studio. It seemed to be trying to get out and flew into the glass door...I quickly opened the door and then robin sat on my CD player for a few moments and I remained in my hall - just watching. How much more magic can I BE?

Distant Shamanic Healing

Posted on July 18, 2017 at 11:20 AM

People have a shamanic journey to address many things, such as relationship issues, feeling stuck, wanting to move forward, wanting to feel happier in life, or more complete.

When you have decided you would like a distant shamnic journey done on your behalf, we correspond by email

We find out what has not been happening that you do want, or what is happening that you don't want.

As we do this it becomes clear as to the point of focus in the journey..soul retrieval, healing, removing blocks to power etc

You don't always have to have a problem to benefit from a session..many artists and musicians book a journey to enhance creativity and success in their line of work

Some people arrange a distant session to heal their family line

Once we have our focus, you can go about your life and Zannie follows guidance as to the timing of the journey.

She plays her drum and goes into an altered state and visits the lower world, upper world, or middle world and takes notice of what she sees, hears, feels during the journey, which she performs with the assistance of her power animals and spirit allies

She may find soul parts, a power animal, a healing object or a power object for you.

You may also have unhelpful energies cleared from your energy body. (Shamanic Extraction)

Any parts that return, or power animals for you, are blown into your energy field, and rattled in for integration.

This is done remotely.

You will receive notes about the shamanic journey.

Power Retrieval

Posted on July 18, 2017 at 5:45 AM

In a distant power retrieval session, I ask to  retrieve a power animal or power object from non-ordinary reality for you.

. This restores  power to protect and maintain physical and energetic integrity.

Chronic illnesses, chronic depression, or chronic misfortune may be the result of power loss.

We can  lose our personal power in  so many ways.

Sometimes we give it away to others such as  family members,  partners,or  co-workers, bosses, employees at  work.– and sometimes we lose it after a traumatic event.

By retrieving and integrating  personal power we empower ourselves, enabling us to form healthier relationships with ourselves and others.
